Family Keepsake Sessions on Film

  • There are many reasons I shoot film, but the most important reason for me is that it brings me so much joy. Film is simply magical and has an inherent quality to it that can't be replicated with digital. Film forces me to slow down and see moments more clearly. I'll often camp out and watch a moment unfold through my viewfinder, waiting for the right moment to press my shutter. Knowing that I have a limited number of frames available (36 per roll!) helps me to approach each shot with care and intention. Film also has a pureness to it that to me is very poetic when paired with family life. Life with littles is so imperfectly perfect and to me it feels only right to capture it with a medium where any imperfections become beautifully perfect reflections of the past. Lastly, I absolutely love the delayed gratification of waiting for a roll of film to be developed, and truly get so giddy when a roll comes back to me. There are always surprises, and I'm always smiling ear to ear.

  • My approach is and always will be child-led. While I walk into every session with a loose plan in mind, I pride myself on being incredibly flexible and incredibly patient. I can be slow to direct at times - choosing to pause and watch what unfolds naturally to capture those authentic family moments. Other times I'll give you prompts for playing together, which is usually when we get those sweet genuine smiles. And I will undoubtedly make a fool of myself while goofing off with your kids - I'm one at heart. It's always my desire to put any nerves they may have to rest, and to make sure they have a good experience. No forced smiles here. Rather we'll make art of your every day. I especially find inspiration from in-between moments - those little details are the bones for your family story.

  • After you reach out and determine what type of session you want to do, we'll settle on a date and time. Once booked, you'll be sent a brief questionnaire that will dig a little deeper, help me get to know you better, and hear your hopes and your "why" for your session. From there, we'll work together to find an overall way to most authentically capture this season of life for you!

  • Picking a location that means something to you and your family is the best way to ensure everyone feels comfortable and themselves during our time, and that your images come back feeling genuine to you. This could be at your home, a favorite park in the Kansas City area or even your local ice cream shop.

  • There are hard costs associated to shooting with film (purchasing film, then processing + scanning), as well as the time I spend to communicate and prep for your shoot, send in your film, edit any scans, and put together your final gallery. It's a big investment to book a shoot and I don't take that lightly. I also know how quickly our littles grow, and I've personally regretted waiting too long to get my own family in front of a camera. It's my hope that in 20 years you'll truly be able to feel the love and the life in your family's story when you look back through your photos. I'm confident that if you choose to go forward with a session, you'll never regret freezing this cherished time with your family.
